Afsaneh Khoramshahi

ENGLISH & FARSI/PERSIAN

Illustrator/Author

Afsaneh Khoramshahi is an Australian/Iranian author and illustrator who currently lives in Hammond Park, Western Australia. She paints,  designs Persian rugs and has authored and illustrated books in Iran. Her art focuses on the intersection of modern daily life in Australia and ancient folktales and fables from Iran.

Afsenah had illustrated eight titles by other authors, and two of her penmanship. Her books are readily available in Iran.

In addition to illustration, Afsenah also works as a Persian rug designer and enjoys painting. She draws inspiration from traditional stories and fables from her culture and enjoys playing with the intersection of the traditional and the modern, and bringing together stories from Australian culture and her heritage.

“In my most recent projects,” she says, “I have tried to portray the worlds of old Persian love poems and communicate what may be lost in translation. Instead of words, I have used the international language of shape and colour to present poetry that can exist across cultures.”
