<image:title>Illustrators - Afsaneh Khoramshahi - Afsaneh Khoramshahi is an Australian/Iranian author and illustrator who currently lives in Hammond Park, Western Australia. She paints, designs Persian rugs and has authored and illustrated books in Iran. Her art focuses on the intersection of modern daily life in Australia and ancient folktales and fables from Iran. Afsenah had illustrated eight titles by other authors, and two of her penmanship. Her books are readily available in Iran. In addition to illustration, Afsenah also works as a Persian rug designer and enjoys painting. She draws inspiration from traditional stories and fables from her culture and enjoys playing with the intersection of the traditional and the modern, and bringing together stories from Australian culture and her heritage.</image:title>
<image:caption>“In my most recent projects,” she says, “I have tried to portray the worlds of old Persian love poems and communicate what may be lost in translation. Instead of words, I have used the international language of shape and colour to present poetry that can exist across cultures.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Illustrators - Anna Nguyen - Anna Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Australian illustrator and animator from Sydney. She likes to create fun andquirky artworks with a whimsical and nostalgic vibe.</image:title>
<image:caption>Anna graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Design in Animation Honours, during which time, she co-created a film about Cabramatta and Canley Vale with colleagues. “It was my first time creating media and art from a place that I didn't realize was so important to me and a place that was so integral to my culture,” Anna says. “Creating the film really helped me be more connected with my family and culture, and it has definitely inspired me to create more art about my culture in hopes to make others relate and feel the same way I do. I would love to work towards creating art that resonates with Vietnamese-Australians like me and opens conversations.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Illustrators - Lima Maula - Lia Maula, who otherwise goes by Lima, is an Muslim Indonesian illustrator born and raised in Sydney. After spending the last decade in Indonesia and eventually completing a degree in architecture there, they have just recently returned to Sydney. Lima uses a mix of traditional and digital media to create illustrations that are sombre, wistful and nostalgic. Their current body of work mostly revolves around themes of solitude and searching. Lima's primary interest is illustrating picture books, however as a multidisciplinary artist they have also dabbled in fields such as architecture, mural design, background painting for animation, and hand-lettering.</image:title>
<image:caption>Lima is a Children's Book Academy graduate and scholarship recipient and has experience working with self-published authors, editors, art directors, and agents. Lima was a finalist for the 2022-2023 Mirror Mentorship as well as the a We Need Diverse Books Mentorship Program. “Growing up,” Lima explains, “I've had to move around between countries and cities, and I'd like to cater to an audience with the same experience in hiraeth. Adjusting to new environments as a kid can be difficult and I hope the things I work on can aid them in that experience.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Illustrators - Erika Zhu - Erika Zhu grew up around the world and constantly moved across Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia. She developed a strong passion for people watching and enjoyed noticing the small idiosyncrasies of the mundane life of people around her. Stylistically, she likes to feature clear and strong compositions, bold silhouettes, and minimalistic but compelling storylines in her work. Put together, she hopes to reflect how even the ordinary can be beautiful and unique. Erika is now based in Sydney, and works primarily in illustration, animation, and photography. Alongside a team of animators, she created stop-motion work for the UTS Data Arena ‘We Went There’, as well as a shortfilm adaptation of ‘Hope is an Inanimate Object’ for Spineless Wonders. Her latest work, ‘Al Nafs’ placed first in a creative collaboration project with Genesis Motors Australia</image:title>
<image:caption>“I grew up in Hong Kong,” Erika explains, “and my first spoken language was Cantonese (and first written language, Chinese). So when my family moved to Australia when I was six, it created a huge impact on my childhood, especially my sense of belonging. I would like to create something that can help change the current landscape of Australian children’s literature - to increase diversity and bring a sense of home and comfort for multilingual children.”</image:caption>

She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Design (Animation) from the University of Technology Sydney in 2021. Audrey was born in Manila, The Philippines and moved to Australia when she was 5 years old. As a Third Culture Kid, she’s always been drawn to stories about diversity and differences, and is always looking to help kids 'find their place in the world' through her work. Her illustrative style takes a ‘scrapbook’ approach, incorporating hand generated textures, colours and assets to create a playful, tactile feel. Her favourite media to work with include ink, gouache, and watercolour. In addition to illustrating, Audrey is also a Production Coordinator at Flying Bark Productions, working on animated children’s film and TV.</image:title>
<image:caption>“Children’s content is so powerful,” she says. “It has the potential to shape identities and entire childhoods. I’d love for my work to help children of colour feel represented, and know that they too can be main characters.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Authors - Michelle Cheng - Michelle Cheng is an Australian-born Chinese who diligently followed a predetermined life path of success until one day, she didn’t. Since then, she’s lived in three different continents across six different cities, pursued social-impact missions across three different careers and finally returned home to Australia with a relentless desire to shape the stories we tell our youth.</image:title>
<image:caption>Michelle’s works bring new perspectives to hyphenated identities by building a space of unity through shared values, hopes and dreams of different cultures. She weaves her three languages of Cantonese, Mandarin and English into modern fables that are life-affirming and inspiring to multilingual children and parents alike.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Halyna’s Ukranian background fuels her passion. “Since February 2022,more than 5 million Ukrainian citizens became refugees,” she says. “The majority of them are children and women. Some of them immigrated to Australia. Therefore, there is a need for building an intercultural understanding between Australian and Ukrainian children.” She dreams of creating a picturebook to help build that understanding through children’s stories and illustration.</image:caption>
